What is CrossFit?
CrossFit of Guilford is a strength and conditioning center that is dedicated to helping you obtain more strength, confidence, energy, stamina, optimism, endurance and longevity. The writers for Discovery Health Channel stated that “Crossfit is a different type of exercise routine. It is a well-rounded and very efficient way to achieve a higher level of fitness … that does not need a whole lot of fancy equipment, dut does offer a nice variety to keep the interest level up and provide the challenge needed to keep the exercise fun.” Crossfit is a strength and conditioning brand that combines weightlifting, sprinting, gymnastics, powerlifting, kettlebell training, plyometrics, rowing and medicine ball training. People who are commited to doing Crossfit shall be proficient in cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, agility, balance, coordination and accuracy. It is an ideal work-out program for the entire spectrum of people from children to athletes to triathletes and seniors. Crossfitters run, row, jump rope, climb rope, carry objects short distances, and powerlift. They also use dumbbells, gymnastic rings, kettlebells, pull-up bars and many bodyweight exercises. Crossfit is used in nearly 2,000 gyms worldwide and by many fire departments, law enforcement and military agencies. Crossfit workouts are centered around the “WOD”, the “Workout of the Day” which are designed to burn fat and calories throughout the entire day. Crossfit gyms are usually called “boxes” and classes typically include a warm-up, a skill development segment, and a high intensity workout that lasts around ten to twenty minutes. Crossfit uses a scoring and ranking system to transform the workout into sport. WhipIt Crossfit of Guilford will have many adaptions to their programs offering classes for children, seniors, highschool and college athletes, as well as one one one training.
